NMMF on Kyle Weatherman's ARCA Racing Series car for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200

On Sunday April 30, 2017, NASCAR driver Kyle Weatherman included The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation in his #KyleKares campaign. He added The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation as a sponsor on the #78 ARCA Racing Series car he drove for Mason Mitchell Motorsports in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem Speedway. It’s his way of showing love and support to causes he believes in and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Our Founder, Lui Delgado and President Trinity Phillips were in attendance at the track and cheered from the pit box as Kyle proved to be the fastest car on the track, lap after lap. A caution catching him in the pits and an error not of his doing, put him 2 laps down to the leader. After successfully taking back one of the lost laps with hard racing, we hoped for caution. Unfortunately it never came and there weren’t enough laps remaining in the race to make it all up, but he almost did. His never give up attitude and focus on hitting his marks put him just seconds away from the lead lap. It was an incredible run. He finished 3rd.

Just two weeks prior and in the same car, he dominated the field in Nashville. He finished 2nd in that race. Again, an unfortunate event cost him the win after leading the most laps. Racing is definitely a team sport and one that relies on so many moving parts. Environmental conditions, equipment, sponsorship dollars, luck, and skill. Kyle and every race car driver knows this all too well. It’s just part of the deal.

With a great supportive family, Mason Mitchell Motorsports equipment, awesome sponsors, and tremendous skill…he has most of the moving parts in his control figured out. Enough to be competitive and in a car able to win on any given race day. He is second In the ARCA points standing and the season is young. So the race to this years ARCA Racing Series Championship is on.

This race and racing in general mimics life. Things happen that are out of your control and you have to make a choice. Do I let it beat me and give up? Or, do I focus on what is in my control, the next task, the NOW? Just days prior to the race Kyle spoke of this very thing on The Couch Live Radio program. He spoke of how despite being disappointed with anything other than a win, he shakes it off within a short period of time and focuses on the next race. He related that to how people get disappointed in their life and have to move on as well. We all do it or we get stuck in regret and failure. He’s a very mature 19 year old man. He has the wisdom, perseverance, and attitude to know his day is coming.

He proved able to show empathy and identify with people that are trying to overcome hardships and barriers like so many in recovery are, because of the life lessons he learns in racing. He knows that he can only move forward one day at a time and focus on what he can do in the NOW. Guess that is why he likes us so much and our hashtag #nowmattersmore.

In return, we want to promote him and athletes like him that do so much for their community and people in general. We made some special shirts for him and the race this past weekend. After an overwhelming amount of requests for the shirts, we decided that we would make them available for anyone that would like to support Kyle Weatherman, his #KyleKares campaign, and of course The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation. This means that by purchasing one of these shirts you will be helping someone get quality treatment for their addiction. It means that YOU care too.

Thank you again Kyle for bringing more awareness to our purpose and making it part of your purpose. You help people know that they don’t have to be addicts in recovery, have a loved one in recovery, or have had someone close to you die of this disease to help or give back. You simply have to love helping people and know that every little bit helps. That in the long run, we can make an impact and that we are all effected by those that are suffering.

Kyle really does Kare.

The Couch Live: On Campus- UCF Edition

The Couch Live: On Campus- UCF Edition

What started as a discussion to bring a Town Hall meeting to the University of Central Florida Campus, evolved into The Couch Live Radio Show showing up in person.  All too often we appear to speak to the younger generation warning them about the big bad wolves, dangers in the dark, and how they will one day understand, but not today.  Well definitely NOT TODAY, because we wanted to listen.  Listen to what they thought about drugs, alcohol, addiction, and what we can do to better arm them with the information and resources to succeed though all that comes with it.  We wanted the truth, the way they see it.

The Couch Live can be heard Fridays from 12-1pm on www.WJHM102JAMZ.com and watched on Facebook Live by going to www.Facebook.com/TheCouchLive.  The show focuses on all issues related to addiction and recovery, and is sponsored in part by The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation.

On April 18th, the co-ed fraternity of Lambda Alpha Epsilon sponsored the event.  LAE is a pre-professional criminal justice fraternity.  LAE on the UCF campus is led by some incredible individuals like their president Milena Canete and Spider Council Member Julie Candelaria.  Together with The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation they helped create & make this event a success.  They invited The Couch Live to record a show outside the UCF Student Union.  The Host Lui Delgado, CAP brought along his co-host and President of the foundation Trinity Phillips, guest host and local therapist from Solace Counseling Aaron Moore, LMHC, and guest producer from Indie Jamz Elvy Natalia. Pictured above are The Couch Live personalities along with members of the LAE fraternity, and some therapists from the UCF counseling center.

Thanks to the draw of the free pizza provided by the Orange County Drug Free Office, we attracted an audience.  Free food has always worked as secret weapon to get some attention.  What was not expected, was the level of insight and concern they actually had about the subject matter.

We met some insightful students who joined us on The Couch, literally since we brought one, and interviewed them on the air.  One was a Sociology student who was wearing a NORML wristband.  She admitted to being a marijuana smoker, wanted it to be legalized, but does question her ability to be one that can smoke marijuana successfully.  She openly admitted that her own parents are marijuana smokers and that her father has even smoked marijuana with her, after her turning 18 of course.  Although she doesn't fear the genetic predisposition to addiction, she did admit that she suffers from clinical Depression, and that her use of marijuana makes her depression worse.

This is common with marijuana.  People having a social, philosophical, or political opinion favorably on the substance, but not necessarily planning to use it even if and when it is fully legalized due to other reasons.

Despite the laughs and playful discussions, the common question or concern for the day was; how can I help someone who may have a drug or alcohol problem?  The second was, what is addiction and is it really a disease?

This allowed us to discuss and educate them in a way that could make sense to them.  College is a place to learn, but notorious for its views on play and experience.  However, they want to avoid the deadly mines and quick sand because the ultimate goal is to succeed in life.  All in all, it was a very successful event.  One that we plan to repeat again and again in the future.

Having the UCF counseling program available just steps away, helped us ensure that should anyone require additional help or understanding of any of the subject matter discussed, that they could get it right there on campus.  The best thing is that they can get the help free and CONFIDENTIALLY.

The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation is also available to help anyone at UCF, or any other campus find the necessary help for them or someone they care about.  If you or someone you know would like to discuss a personal situation to know how to navigate the next step please do not hesitate to contact our own Founder and Host of The Couch Live, Lui Delgado at 407-721-5402.

Surfers for Recovery

New scholarship promoted at the Florida Surf Film Festival

Special thanks to Serenity Springs Recovery Center for promoting our new scholarship Surfers For Recovery this weekend at the Florida Surf Film Festival.  Red Dog Surf Shop has donated a Hypto Krypto surfboard and a $100 gift card to give away to some lucky winners that purchase raffle tickets at the SSRC table.  More prizes are available and all the proceeds will help scholarship someone into treatment and be blessed with the opportunity of winning the battle against the disease of addiction.

Come visit our booth at the Florida Surf Film Festival (FSFF)! The FLA Surf Film Fest, presented by Monster Energy, will be on November 18-19, 2016 located at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach.

Their mission is to invigorate surf culture through film appreciation and artistic expression by exhibiting contemporary films from filmmakers far and wide with surfing as a focus.
Serenity Springs Recovery Center is partnering with the FSFF to engage with the community to create new conversations about recovery. Our purpose is to remove the stigma surrounding the recovery process. Through compassion and dedication, we enable our clients to “stop recovering and recover”.

We are passionate about the surf culture through our surf program for our clients and are proud supporters of the arts. The surf community has been welcoming and supportive of our purpose and participating in the FSFF is a small way to say thank you.

Clients have the opportunity to go surfing twice per week at our local beaches. A feature that sets our treatment center apart is the ability to take clients on outings regularly to engage in activity based recovery.
We recognize that surfing is deeply moving and spiritual to many people. Clients often become more aware and connected to themselves and the ocean around them when they learn to surf. Surfing is one of our main avenues of connecting the mind, body, and spirit for recovery.

We invite you to attend the festival and to check out our booth that will feature games, program information and the chance to win a surfboard from Red Dog Surf Shop!

Visit www.floridasurffilmfestival.com for festival and ticket information.

Recovery Month Events 2016

Recovery Month is upon us and The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation has several events that we would like to invite you join.

We get the month kicked off early on August 25, 2016.  Advanced Recovery Systems presents an exclusive screening of Generation Found, with filmmaker Greg Williams.  This will take place at 6:30pm at the Winter Park Village Cinema Stadium 20, 510 North Orlando Ave., Winter Park, FL.

A panel Discussion with Greg Williams and industry experts will follow the screening.  To purchase tickets click HERE or visit www.advancedrecoverysystems.com/movie.  Tickets must be pre-purchased online so please don't miss out.  Our own founder, Lui Delgado will be co-moderating the panel discussion.

Next on the agenda is the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day event on August 28, 2016.  Serenity Springs Recovery Center is hosting this event because police officers are often the first step in an addict's road to recovery and typically they aren't thanked in the process.  This will take place at 2:00pm at SSRC, 1555 Cow Creek Road, Edgewater, FL.

This event is FREE to attend and will include catered food, guest speakers, raffles, music, and a special recognition for local officers.  Click HERE to register, visit www.serenityspringsrecovery.com or call 386-423-4540 for more information.

Next we participate again in the Recovery Run/Walk Celebration in Orange County on September 17, 2016.  Registration begins at 7am, 5K run begins at 7:30am, and 3K walk starts at 8am.  This will take place at Barnett Park, 4801 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL.

This event is FREE and fun for the entire family.  Come celebrate recovery and show some love for those that have decided to "Step in the Name of Love."  Food, water, prizes, raffle items, entertainment, and kids area will be provided.  Please register in advance by clicking HERE, or visit www.drugfreecoalition.org or call 407-836-7335 for more information.

Lastly, The N.O.W. Matters More Foundation is having it's Inagural Recovery Walk New Smyrna Beach on September 24, 2016.  Join us from 11am-whenever we decide to leave starting at Beachie Beans Coffeehouse at 411 Flagler Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL.

This event is FREE and will be another family friendly event.  Come have fun with our foundation members, friends, families, and anyone that supports efforts to combat the disease of addiction.  Recovery is possible, and events like these proves that miracles do exist.  Hotdogs, water, raffle items, and entertainment will be provided.  Please register in advance by clicking HERE, or visit www.NowMattersMore.org or call 407-721-5402 for more information.

Special thanks to all of the sponsors for all the above mentioned events for all that they do to make these possible.  See you there.

2nd Annual N.O.W. Matters More Foundation Charity Golf Tournament

Thanks to the ongoing generosity of our sponsors, we have continued on with our mission of recovery in 2015 by completing our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament.  This year we were able to use over $17,000.00 of donations to help those in need of addiction recovery.  To date our foundation has helped over 200 women, men and  families battle this insidious disease.  These funds along with other donations throughout the year have also created more awareness in the Central Florida Community as a whole.  Each year we strive to make this event larger and better.  Hoping that next year (March 2016) will be our biggest tournament yet.
